About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Rust Engineer to help maintain and improve Nervos CKB’s Layer 1.

You will work across CKB’s core Layer 1 infrastructure, including peer-to-peer networking, block synchronization, consensus and validation, transaction pool, storage, virtual machine, RPC and indexing services. Your day-to-day work will include developing features, investigating bugs, addressing security reports, and improving node reliability, performance, and resource efficiency.

We welcome engineers with strong systems programming experience who are interested in blockchain infrastructure.

This is a remote role. Clear communication, independent judgment, and effective collaboration are essential.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain CKB Layer 1 components across peer-to-peer networking, storage, virtual machine, RPC services, and other core infrastructure.
• Investigate and fix bugs, analyze security reports from the community and bug bounty program, and develop fixes with appropriate regression tests.
• Diagnose reliability and performance issues through debugging, profiling, and testing.
• Participate in technical design discussions and code reviews, considering correctness, security, compatibility, and maintainability.
• Work closely with teammates through clear written communication, timely updates, and constructive technical discussions.
• Use AI coding agents where useful, while independently evaluating their suggestions, verifying changes, and taking responsibility for the code you deliver.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 3 years of software engineering experience, with strong proficiency in Rust.
• Practical experience in one or more relevant areas, such as networking, storage systems, virtual machines, consensus, or blockchain core development.
• Ability to independently investigate complex bugs and carry changes through implementation, testing, and review.
• Experience developing and debugging systems software in Linux environments, with confidence using command-line tools.
• A careful approach to correctness, security, testing, and code review.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a remote team, including the ability to explain technical decisions and raise problems early.
• Ability to read and write technical English and participate in technical discussions.
• Ability to use AI tools critically: understand the code you submit, question generated suggestions, and verify their correctness.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience contributing to open-source projects.
• Familiarity with blockchain architecture, consensus, or the UTXO model.
• Experience investigating vulnerabilities or fixing security-sensitive bugs.
• Ability to read and debug C code.
• Experience with performance profiling, concurrency, or low-level systems debugging.
• Familiarity with Nervos CKB.
